Our Technicians

Melissa – Outpatient Technician Supervisor, CVT

Melissa began working as a technician at NAH in the summer of 2000. After receiving a B.S in Biology from Hood College, Melissa decided to further her career as a tech and chose to pursue an education in veterinary technology. She received her certification from Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology in Colorado. Upon receiving her certification, she returned to RI. Her interests include emergency medicine and orthopedic surgery. Melissa has been dreaming of working in this field since she was 5yrs old. Her friendly home in Newport includes a Boston / French Bulldog (Brunchie!) named Lulu.

Kelsey – Outpatient Technician Supervisor

Kelsey began working at Newport Animal Hospital in the Summer of 2014 as a Veterinary Technician after working in the restaurants of Newport. She loves working with and caring for animals, and constantly strives to learn new skills. Kelsey’s interests include inpatient care and emergency medicine. Born and raised in Newport, Kelsey currently lives with her husband, son and goofy Coonhound named Reed. She is thrilled to be a part of the NAH team!

Lindsay – Technician Training Manager

Lindsay started working at the Newport Animal Hospital in 2010 starting her career in the boarding facility! In 2013 Lindsay earned a position as a Veterinary Technician. Over the years, her dedication and skill earned her a promotion to Outpatient Technician Supervisor. She was just recently promoted to Technician Training Manager. She is loving her position working with the technicians to expand their skills and training on new tasks and procedures! Lindsay grew up with many pets including dogs, birds, bunnies and her pet mouse. She has always loved animals and enjoys working with them on a daily basis. Lindsay currently resides in Middletown with her cat Daenerys and plans on adopting a new fur baby in the near future!

Tony – Inpatient Supervisor

Tony has been a member of the NAH team since 2005. He attended the University of Rhode Island, where he received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. His interests in animal health led him to a position here at NAH. While he began his career as an outpatient technician, Tony’s skills and devotion to our clients and their pets ultimately earned him the position of Senior Inpatient Supervisor. Tony’s occupational interests include preventative medicine, client education and, (of course) inpatient care. Tony lives in Portsmouth wife his wife and three young children.

Jessica – Inpatient Supervisor

Jessica, who has always been an animal lover, graduated Providence College in 2008 and joined the NAH staff as a Veterinary Technician in 2015, where she was promoted to Inpatient Supervisor. Previously, Jess worked and volunteered in the animal care field for many years, doing everything from fostering kittens to working as a certified dog trainer. She is very passionate about animal rescue, especially when it comes to senior and disabled dogs. When she is not working, she either spends her free time at the beach, or walking her two rescue dogs, Stella and Sadie (aka Meatball).

Outi – Clinic Manager

Outi became a member of the Newport Animal Hospital team in 1999. She is originally from Finland and enjoys horseback riding and yoga. Prior to moving to Newport she worked with top-level show jumpers in Southampton, NY and Wellington, FL. As the Clinic Manager she makes customer service her top priority in addition to helping our clients feel at home while receiving the best medical care for their pets. Outi now lives in Portsmouth with her husband and her marvelous corgi Edward.

Andrew – Clinic Manager

Andrew joined the NAH team in April 2010 as a technician, but is now one of our Clinic Managers.  He primarily works at our Jamestown and Newport satellite clinics and enjoys educating clients along with providing top-level medical care to all of our patients.

Katey – Senior Outpatient Technician

After graduating from the University of Rhode Island in 2016, Katey moved to Middletown, Rhode Island and started her career at NAH as a boarding assistant in November of 2017. After a year of hard work in our boarding facility, Katey was promoted to a veterinary technician. She has a love for all animals especially for her cat, Loki, and her dog, Captain, who are the loves of her life.

Cassandra – Senior Inpatient Technician 

Cassandra received a veterinary assistant certificate in 2017 from CCRI and shortly after joined our boarding team in September of 2018. Through the years, Cassandra showed her dedication and love for animals and was promoted to a technician in 2020. Just recently she received another promotion to the Senior Inpatient Technician! Cassandra’s interest kept growing in every department in the hospital and she is now part of our surgical team! She continues to take any opportunity she has to learn more in order to expand her knowledge with animals. Cassandra’s free time is spent spoiling her two Dobermans named Blue and Queenie.

Ashley P. – Senior Clinic Technician

Ashley joined our team as a Veterinary Technician in 2017. She began working as a volunteer at her local shelter and started working in the veterinary field in 2013. When she isn’t working, she enjoys spending time with her two cats, Charlie and Moonpie and her dog, Ranger. Ashley takes particular interest in different modalities of therapy including acupuncture and laser therapy. When she’s not at work she enjoys going on adventures outdoors or curling up with a good book.

Sarah G

Sarah G. – Senior Clinic Technician

Sarah joined the Newport Animal Hospital Veterinary Technician team in 2019. She graduated from The University of Rhode Island in 2015 with a B.S in Animal Sciences and Technology, with a focus in Animal Management. Sarah has had various animals throughout her lifetime and continues to be dedicated to rescuing her animals. She currently has three rescued dogs; 12yr old beagle mix Gizmo, 8yr old miniature pinscher/dachshund mix Gadget, and 5yr old unknown mix Dakota. When she’s not at work you will often find her visiting zoos and aquariums with her husband and son.

Michelle

Michelle joined the NAH team in April of 2017. Her previous animal experience includes marine mammal training, zoo keeping, and rehabilitation of the Florida manatee. She began working at the Newport Animal Hospital to learn more about the medical side of animal care. When she is not working, you can find her playing sports competitively, relaxing at the beach, or spending time with her four cats Bella, Bailey, Norah, and Poro.

Kat

Kat began working at NAH in 2011 as a boarding assistant. After graduating from the University of Rhode Island in 2012 with her B.A. in Animal Science, Kat began working as a veterinary technician. Kat has had a lifelong love of animals starting out with horses when she was only 6 years old. In her spare time, she loves to horseback ride and hike with her rescue dog, Tanner.

Robin

Robin joined NAH the summer of 2020 after moving to the Newport area from Virginia. She is excited to be part of such an amazing team.  Robin started working as a veterinary technician in multiple duty locations, with the US Army, 9 years ago and in 2019 received her Veterinary Assistant Certificate from San Juan College.  She has been a military spouse for 27 years and has two adult “kids”.  Robin enjoys spending time with her family and her 11 year old rescue dog “Hoku”.

Sophie

Sophie grew up in New York City with two cats, two dogs, a chinchilla, and five pufferfish. She graduated from Stony Brook University with a B.S. in Biology. While in school she studied abroad in Madagascar where she studied lemurs and various ecosystems. It was then that she realized working with animals was her calling. Since moving to Rhode Island she has taken up scuba diving in her free time, and is always looking for more dive buddies! Sophie’s 16-year-old Coton-de-Tulear, Angel, has been included in her picture!

Melanie

Melanie was born in Virginia and grew up in Narragansett, RI. She received a B.S. degree from the University of Rhode Island in Pre-Veterinary science. Melanie has been involved with animals since she was born and has been wanting to become a veterinarian from that point on. She has been in the veterinary field since 2016. She lives with her beautiful black cat named Rajah, whom is included in her picture. In her free time Melanie loves to travel, eat unique food, and of course receives cuddles from Rajah.

Sydney

Sydney grew up in Illinois with two dogs and two cats before going up to Maine for college. While studying there she was also a part of the university’s volleyball team for all 4 years. She graduated from the University of New England with two bachelor’s degrees in Marine Biology and Chemistry. After graduating she stayed on the East Coast and found a love for working one on one with animals after working with rescue centers. She currently has a dog named Bruno, and a cat named Goose. She enjoys doing any activities that involve the ocean and being outside.

Rebekah

Rebekah joined Newport Animal Hospital back in August 2021 as a Boarding Assistant! Rebekah started her animal career while living in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She started working in different dog daycares/boarding facilities and dog grooming salons, where she learned about animal behaviors, and gained knowledge about the importance of grooming when it comes to an animal’s coat and skin. Along the way, Rebekah took an interest in animal health and was soon offered a technician appointment in February 2022 and has enjoyed the job ever since. She loves to learn new things every day and will take any chance to improve her skills. Even when she is not at the hospital, Rebekah will keep busy taking care of her two senior dogs Mandy and Cinnamon, and will be going on nature trails and hikes with her big dog Dobby.

Alexis

Alexis began working at NAH in August of 2022 after graduating in May from Bristol Community College with an Associates in Applied Science in Veterinary Healthcare. Alexis has had a passion for animals of all shapes and sizes since she can remember and has experience working with cats, dogs, farm animals, wildlife, rodents, and reptiles. She is currently a mom to a 5-year-old German Shepherd mix, a 16-year-old Pomeranian, and 7 domestic mice. Outside of her work, Alexis enjoys photography, hiking, and spending time with her family.

Haili

Haili joined the Newport Animal Hospital team as a veterinary technician in June of 2023. Her vet tech training comes from the U.S. Army where she served 4 years as an Animal Care Specialist. Haili was born and raised in Kansas though the Army has moved her and her family to Hawaii, California, and Rhode Island. When she isn’t at work, she loves to go hiking with her Rhodesian Ridgeback mix named Scooby or spending the day at the beach.
